And following on from yesterday’s LONG HAUL piece, there’s another interview with me up at Newsarama today, this time talking about YUGGOTH CREATURES and Lovecraft.

(Originally, Matt’s last question also asked if we had any more planned after this 3-issue miniseries. My last answer makes a lot more sense if you bear that in mind…)

Issue #1 of YUGGOTH CREATURES is now available for pre-order from comic stores: the order code is MAY042363.

There’s an interview with me up at Comic Book Resources today, waxing lyrical to Jonah Weiland about YUGGOTH CREATURES. And if you haven’t seen it yet, Avatar have now added some interior art from the book to their YC publisher’s page.

YUGGOTH CREATURES, my new original miniseries from Avatar, has just been announced.

Illustrated by a sterling line-up of artists, it details the memoirs of Anders Ericsson, former Professor of Anthropology at Miskatonic University, as he relates a lifetime spent exploring the Cthulhu Mythos and the effects it’s had on his health and sanity. His discoveries spell a doom-laden future for the Earth and mankind…

YUGGOTH CREATURES is a 3-issue miniseries, with each issue containing six stories totalling at least thirty pages. #1 will be available for preorder in the next PREVIEWS catalogue, which comes out in a week or so. For now, you can read more about it at Avatar’s website.

Release date news from Avatar: The HYPOTHETICAL LIZARD preview book is now going to ship on March 24th (i.e. next week), a month earlier than expected. And NIGHTJAR #1 is now confirmed for March 31st. (Addendum: seems the two-book hardcover slipcase edition of THE COURTYARD collection is also going to ship on the 24th. It never rains…)

A little later than planned, but the collected edition of THE COURTYARD went on sale this week, along with the COURTYARD COMPANION. I haven’t seen copies myself yet, but I hear they’re rather gorgeous. In a hideous, Lovecraftian way.

I have two books avilable for pre-order in this month’s catalogue, both from Avatar Press:

In NIGHTJAR #2 (order code FEB042136), Mirrigan tries to have a normal Halloween celebration on Pendle Hill with an old friend, before setting off on her quest for revenge. But one of Blason’s agents is already on Mirri’s tail, and when the fanatical Reverend Brown hears there’s a Demdike on the hill things go from bad to worse…

Also solicited is a preview book for THE HYPOTHETICAL LIZARD (order code FEB042134), another adaptation of an Alan Moore novella. Contrasting the reality of human love and emotion with the fantasy world of Liavek, LIZARD is one of Moore’s best-loved prose works and was nominated for a World Fantasy Award in 1998.

YUGGOTH CULTURES #2 is now in stores. This one has two adaptation pieces by me – LITVINOFF’S BOOK, the odd tale of a mythical book centring round the Kray twins, and RECOGNITION, a piece which mixes H P Lovecraft up into his own mythos. Warning: not for the faint-hearted. Seriously.

Speaking of Alan Moore, as I have been known to do on occasion, there’s a big update on Ninth Art today in celebration of the bearded one’s 50th birthday, which is tomorrow. I contributed to a couple of the pieces, and the THUMBNAIL in particular is a very good summation of Alan’s career to date.

As for my own work, I’m almost done writing the first arc of Avatar Ongoing Series #1, and I’m rather pleased with it so far. We’ve also finally secured an artist for the series, whose work is outstanding. Stay tuned – proper announcement coming soon.

Just finished scripting Act IV of JULIUS, and Brett’s close behind. I saw the art for the first half of Act III at the weekend, and I have to say that the assassination scene is beautiful (not to mention violent…)

I’m also told that YUGGOTH CULTURES #1 should be on sale sometime the week after next. I’m looking forward to seeing how that’s all come out.

And finally, I’m off on a research trip for one of The Avatar Ongoing Series this weekend, which should be fun. With a bit of luck you’ll be hearing more about that very soon…

Avatar have posted their solicitations for December online, and the two COURTYARD books are both featured.

For those who didn’t get the newsletter about this… Avatar are releasing a collection of THE COURTYARD which reprints the two-issue comic story, with a new introduction from Garth Ennis; and also THE COURTYARD COMPANION, which features the full adaptation script I wrote, Alan’s original short story, exhaustive annotations by a Lovecraft scholar, new pinups from Jacen and a new essay by me about Lovecraft, Moore and working on the book. I’m fairly certain this book will also feature the ‘original ending’ of the comic version, which was changed (for the better) in the final book, but I don’t see it in the solicitation so don’t quote me on that.

There’ll also be a limited edition deluxe hardcover slipcase of both books with new covers, new artwork on the slipcase, and an art print – all by Jacen – included. One for the collectors.

The picture to the right is a thumbnail of the COMPANION cover, by the way. Lovely stuff.
