1st July 2005 / Julius / F-Stop / The Long Haul / Closer / Spooked / Free Stuff
I’ve just updated the desktop wallpapers available to download from this site. There’s a new set of F-STOP wallpapers, thus:
…Which also includes a widescreen version for those of you with Cinema Displays or similar widescreen monitors. In the same spirit, I’ve also created new widescreen versions of the existing wallpapers for THE LONG HAUL, JULIUS, SPOOKED and CLOSER.

26th May 2005 / F-Stop
My new iMac G5 arrived yesterday, to replace the poor old steam-powered G3 I’ve been using for the past four years. Being the Mac geek I am, this means I’m currently ensconced in my study surrounded by polystyrene, cables and CDs, and may not fully emerge until I resemble the Wild Man of Borneo.
So until I get bored with mucking about in Automator, here are some quick links to F-STOP reviews that have appeared over the last couple of days. And jolly nice they all are, too:
James Powell at Bookshelf Comics likes the book so much that he’s also interviewed Matthew Loux about it.
Augie De Blieck never pulls his punches. so it’s doubly gratifying to get a big thumbs-up from him.
And, very unexpectedly, “Vroom Socko” at Ain’t It Cool News gives it a lengthy and overwhelmingly positive review.
Now, where did I put those UNREAL TOURNAMENT discs…
20th May 2005 / F-Stop
New review time: over at The Fourth Rail, both Don MacPherson and Randy Lander give F-STOP an impressive 9/10, with Don also naming it his Best Of The Week.
18th May 2005 / F-Stop / Free Stuff / On Sale
F-STOP is in stores today, all 168-pages-for-only-fifteen-dollars of it, and you should buy it immediately to prevent the collapse of Western society. And if you have no social conscience, the nice folks at Oni have now supplied a free preview PDF of the first twenty-five pages, free and online, for you to read at your leisure, online, for free. And what’s more, at no charge.
You’ll find the PDF here.
9th May 2005 / F-Stop / Nightjar / Interviews
Let’s start the week with some good news:
First, F-STOP will be in stores everywhere on May 18th. If you’re lucky enough to shop at a store close to a distribution centre, you may even get it this week, but I have no idea which stores that might be. It’ll definitely be everywhere on the 18th, though.
Second, I’ve just proofed the final, lettered pages for NIGHTJAR #4, and now it’s on its way to the printers. I don’t know exactly when that means it’ll be in stores, but now it’s in the production channel it should be pretty soon.
And finally, something I should have mentioned last week, but it slipped my feeble little mind: there’s a “Readers ask the questions” interview with me over at Comic Foundry. CF is a site for aspiring comic creators, and I gather mine is just the first in a series of similar interviews they’ll be doing with creators. If you’re at all interested in the process of creation and writing, or an aspiring creator yourself, you may find it quite interesting.
20th April 2005 / Queen & Country / F-Stop / Appearances / Anthologies
After some production delay, FOUR LETTER WORLDS is finally available in comic stores today. I haven’t seen any of the other contributions at all, so I’m looking forward to getting a copy myself - the talent roster is very impressive (and then there’s me, but oversights will happen). A bargain at $12.95, too.
In other news, it’s looking more likely that I’ll be attending the San Diego Comic-Con this year; QUEEN & COUNTRY: DECLASSIFIED is finished, looks lovely, and will be on its way to the printers soon; and F-STOP is at the printers, shipping imminently.
9th December 2004 / F-Stop / Interviews
There’s a new interview with me about F-STOP over at Newsarama today, discussing romance, comedy and the pitfalls of entertainment. It also includes the first ten pages of Matthew Loux’s art. Lovely stuff.
24th November 2004 / F-Stop / The Long Haul / Nightjar / Interviews
There’s a new interview with me today on Broken Frontier, conducted by James Powell. It’s quite an interesting one - James asked some very good questions, and although the chat was ostensibly about F-STOP and THE LONG HAUL, he also encouraged me to talk a little about my work habits and how I approach this wacky business of writing the comics. Good stuff.
In other news, I wrote a three-issue miniseries last week, and now I’m piling into another six issues of NIGHTJAR. I do wish they’d hurry up and perfect cloning.
8th November 2004 / F-Stop / The Long Haul / Nightjar
The last couple of weeks have been a time of finishing. The F-STOP script is finished, the Big Secret Avatar Project is finally done, and the LONG HAUL book design is finalised in anticipation of the final art.
But, as with all endings, it’s really just a new beginning - or rather, a batch of new beginnings. I’m starting Book Two of NIGHTJAR (tentatively titled Inferno), there’s a hush-hush miniseries for Oni, and a one-off for a Rather Large Publisher which I’m hoping will lead to bigger things. Not to mention a couple of pitches I need to get finished soon. Ideally, all of this should be written by the end of December…
I suppose I should start thinking about Christmas shopping, too. Gah.
1st November 2004 / F-Stop / Pre-order
And just to prove that the stereotype about writers being absent-minded is sadly all too true, today I realised I have another book solicited in this month’s PREVIEWS that I hadn’t even mentioned yet.
F-STOP is a romantic comedy set in the world of high fashion photography, in which a talentless but charming photographer somehow finds himself lauded around the world… Then discovers what the lies that got him there will cost.
My collaborator on this one is Matthew Loux, previously seen in REFLUX COMICS and GETTING THE SEX OUT OF THE WAY. He’s great.
Published by Oni Press, F-STOP is featured on page 310 of the November PREVIEWS, scheduled for publication in January 2005. Give your comics retailer order code NOV042850.
