10th August 2004 / Free Stuff / Julius
Here’s one for you if you’re a budding comics writer, enjoy peeking behind the scenes, or are just plain nosey… The script for Act I of JULIUS is now online, hosted by the fine folks over at Scryptic Studios.
It’s in PDF format, so you’ll need Acrobat reader to view it.
2nd April 2004 / Julius
“Johnston and Weldele succeed in not only doing The Bard justice, but in producing a quite superb graphic novel” – Matthew Craig reviews JULIUS at Robot Fist.
31st March 2004 / Julius
“In a day and age where Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and Macbeth seem to be the be all and end all of Shakespearian knowledge, it’s nice to see some of Shakespeare’s other classics getting their turn in the spotlight, and done so well by Johnston and Weldele. Shakespeare would be proud.” – Greg McElhatton reviews JULIUS at iComics.
Added April 2nd: Further to that, Don MacPherson of The Fourth Rail also gives JULIUS a good write-up, and a 7 out of 10 rating.
26th January 2004 / Interviews / Julius
Another day, another JULIUS interview; this one’s just me, talking about some of the decisions made in the reworking process, and the mythical allure of gangsters. Also features some more exclusive preview art.
21st January 2004 / Interviews / Julius
The 11-page JULIUS preview is now featured on Comic Book Resources, for anyone who may not have wanted to log onto the Oni message boards. Jonah’s also reprinted my comments on the book from the lengthy interview he conducted with me about my upcoming Oni work after last year’s San Diego con.
19th January 2004 / Interviews / Julius
A new interview with Brett Weldele and myself, talking to Ian Shaughnessy about JULIUS in the first of a new feature at Oni’s website, Squeal Like A Pig. Contains a few exclusive pieces of artwork, too.
19th January 2004 / Free Stuff / Julius / Spooked
If you hadn’t noticed, I’ve been steadily updating the Free Downloads page recently, mainly thanks to the diligent work of Oni Press in producing banner ads, AIM icons and wallpapers for my books. Guess I should get round to producing a SPOOKED wallpaper of my own…
There’s also a link to an online 11-page preview of JULIUS on the page, which is hosted over at the Oni message boards.
11th January 2004 / Julius / Nightjar / Pre-order
I have two books in the new PREVIEWS catalogue for pre-order, both for publication in March (and both featured on the Diamond Previews website, which is nice)…
JULIUS is on page 312 of the catalogue, listed under Oni Press. It’s a 160pp digest-sized book costing $14.95 (i.e. the same format as SPOOKED), and the order code for comic shops is JAN042612.
NIGHTJAR #1 (of 4), meanwhile, is on page 217, listed under Avatar Press. It’s a regular-sized, 32-page comic costing $3.50, and the order code for comic shops is JAN042157.
16th October 2003 / Julius
The script for JULIUS is finished – Act V came together very quickly, and it all fell into place. Which is nice.
So now I’m taking a break from my GN work for a few weeks to concentrate on Avatar work; the first story arc of Ongoing Series #1 should occupy me well into November, I think. And I still have to finish the last couple of episodes of my Vivid work before winter sets in. So, nose to the grindstone.
(Which reminds me – apparently the Vivid Comix stuff is on the front of this month’s PREVIEWS ADULT, but I don’t believe it even gets shipped to the UK, so I haven’t seen it. I’m told it’s pretty impressive, though…)
7th October 2003 / Alan Moore / Julius / On Sale
Just finished scripting Act IV of JULIUS, and Brett’s close behind. I saw the art for the first half of Act III at the weekend, and I have to say that the assassination scene is beautiful (not to mention violent…)
I’m also told that YUGGOTH CULTURES #1 should be on sale sometime the week after next. I’m looking forward to seeing how that’s all come out.
And finally, I’m off on a research trip for one of The Avatar Ongoing Series this weekend, which should be fun. With a bit of luck you’ll be hearing more about that very soon…
