10th January 2006 / Wasteland / Alan Moore / Novels / Spooked / Stealing Life

Welcome to 2006! Hope everyone had a good holidays. On with the new year, then…

I’ve just been informed both YUGGOTH CREATURES #3 and THE HYPOTHETICAL LIZARD #4 are to be resolicited, and released in May 2006. Which ties in neatly with just about everything else coming out in spring/summer this year. Looks like I’ll definitely be doing San Diego Comic-Con 2006, then…

Meanwhile, my recent radio silence has as much to do with work as the holidays; I’ve finished writing the first six issues of WASTELAND, I’m about to write a new horror miniseries for Avatar, I’ve just pitched a quasi-fantasy novel called STEALING LIFE, and I’m working up BLUESHIFT and THE FUSE, two new sci-fi concepts for miniseries. Oh, and I’m slowly but surely completing SSX ON TOUR. So it’s all been a bit hectic, really.

I also promised Oni I’d write the SPOOKED sequel, LOW SPIRITS, this year. Something tells me 2006 is going to be fun.

1st July 2005 / Julius / F-Stop / The Long Haul / Closer / Spooked / Free Stuff

I’ve just updated the desktop wallpapers available to download from this site. There’s a new set of F-STOP wallpapers, thus:

…Which also includes a widescreen version for those of you with Cinema Displays or similar widescreen monitors. In the same spirit, I’ve also created new widescreen versions of the existing wallpapers for THE LONG HAUL, JULIUS, SPOOKED and CLOSER.

12th May 2005 / Julius / The Long Haul / Spooked / Appearances

Fancy getting your hands on some of my books cheap, and helping out a worthy charity at the same time? Of course you do, and here’s how:

I’m off to the Comic Expo in Bristol this weekend. I’ll be the one with the shaved he… No, hang on, the one wearing all bla… Never mind.

Anyway, I’ve teamed up with Ade Brown of the JUST 1 PAGE charity comic. I wasn’t able to contribute to the comic itself, but instead, if you swing by the J1P booth (also home of COMMERCIAL SUICIDE) you’ll find a selection of my graphic novels such as SPOOKED, THE LONG HAUL and JULIUS on sale for a mere five of the Queen’s pounds, with all proceeds going to Childline.

These copies will be signed, and only available at this show. So if you’ve missed a book, or want to try something of mine for the first time, here’s your chance - and all for a good cause into the bargain.

See you there.

5th January 2005 / Julius / Spooked / Nightjar

Greg McElhatton includes JULIUS in his ‘Best of 2004′ list over at iComics.com.

As for me, I’ve just returned from visiting family and friends over the holidays. Now I’m looking forward to knuckling down with a whole load of new work in 2005. I’m halfway through NIGHTJAR Book Two; I’m planning on writing the second book of SPOOKED (titled LOW SPIRITS) this year; I’m also considering a sequel to JULIUS; and I have two pitches currently on the boil, which I’ll tell you more about if they get picked up. So that lot should take me through till about spring, I reckon…

The more perceptive among you will also have noticed that the tail-end of 2004 hit me with a rather bad rash of latebookitis. I wish I could tell you more about when THE LONG HAUL, NIGHTJAR #4 or YUGGOTH CREATURES #2 were coming out, I really do. But until I hear definite dates from the publishers, I simply can’t. What I can do is promise that I’m taking steps to make sure it doesn’t keep happening in 2005.

Here’s to a happy and prosperous year for all.

9th October 2004 / Closer / Spooked / Appearances / Nightjar

I’ve been invited to do a “Horror/Hallowe’en” signing at Travelling Man York on October 30th, which is the Saturday just before Hallowe’en. We’re still finalising the details (including what time I’ll be there from, but “afternoon” is probably a safe bet…) but the date is confirmed, and I’ll definitely be there.

I expect the store will have some kind of tie-in promotion, most likely a discount on my horror books, and I’ve also decided to run my own competition to win signed copies of SPOOKED, CLOSER and NIGHTJAR #1. So if you’re in the area, pop along and say hi.

(ADDENDUM: The start time has now been confirmed as 2pm. Officially I’ll be there from then till 5pm, though I may well stick around a bit longer if people are still coming by.)

15th March 2004 / Spooked

Today brings another extremely complimentary review of SPOOKED, this time from Broken Frontier: “does not disappoint at all, delivering on all levels […] a true original.”

The book also appears to have sold out in London. Given how much the time I spent living there informed the book, that’s very gratifying.

8th March 2004 / Spooked

Some SPOOKED news; first, I received a copy in the mail this morning, and the book looks lovely. Both Ross and myself were very particular about how we wanted the book to look, and I’m pleased to say that it not only meets, but exceeds our expectations.

Second, there are already two reviews of SPOOKED up at The Fourth Rail, courtesy of Don MacPherson and Randy Lander, and both are very complimentary indeed (Addendum: in fact, Don made SPOOKED his Best Of The Week pick). What a nice way to start the week.

4th March 2004 / Spooked / Interviews

One silver lining about SPOOKED being delayed by a week is that it allowed time for this interview with Newsarama to be conducted. It’s a good one,and quite long, in which Matt Brady coaxes a few theories and philosophies on creativity and magic out of me. It also contains an exclusive preview of the book’s first ten pages, fully inked and lettered.

25th February 2004 / Spooked

Quick bit of news: SPOOKED is going to be delayed by a week, and will now ship on Wednesday 10th March. This is due to Ross’ artwork blowing up the repro house’s widebed scanner (No, really), which made us miss our scheduled print window.

We have, however, seen a final proof, so there shouldn’t be any problem from here on, and it should definitely ship on the 10th. Hopefully, it’ll be worth the wait.

19th January 2004 / Julius / Spooked / Free Stuff

If you hadn’t noticed, I’ve been steadily updating the Free Downloads page recently, mainly thanks to the diligent work of Oni Press in producing banner ads, AIM icons and wallpapers for my books. Guess I should get round to producing a SPOOKED wallpaper of my own…

There’s also a link to an online 11-page preview of JULIUS on the page, which is hosted over at the Oni message boards.
